Is there a way that I can connect a LED light to turn on and off via a wireless connection?
Hey all, I am currently doing my final project for university, and am looking into making a physical representation of online communication through lights. And was wondering if someone might know how (or if) you can control a LED light source through a wireless network connection controlled by a computer?
Any help or point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated?
This suggestion may be a bit more than you're looking for, but hey, at least it's not a link to some adsense spam site. 
This would be fairly straight forward to implement using a PC running Linux with a wifi card in it. You'll need some sort of LED light that's connected to the PC by USB, like the link below. The article's a bit old, and covers writing a kernel driver for the USB device. Fortunately, there's now a driver (usbled) in the mainline kernel, so you could skip the kernel driver coding.
So, now you've got an LED and a kernel driver that can turn it on. The final step is a bit of software that can observe when the wifi is available and turn the light on & off. That's fairly easy to implement in perl, python or even ruby. Not sure if those would be good languages for you, or if you're the C/C++ type (I'm not so much).
So, your program will need to loop, every N seconds (you figure out what value you want for N). Look at the output of "iwconfig" and see if the wifi card is associated with its AP. If it is, load the kernel module. If it's not, unload the module. OR, get even more creative - the device the article references supports color changes. So if there's no connection, make the LEDs go red, if there is one, go green.
If you just need to flip it on & off remotely, that's even easier - write a simple php/perl script you can hit with a browser to write the proper values to the r/g/b nodes in the sysfs tree.

Cell Phone Roaming Charges are being eliminated by one of the
top wireless service providers
AT&T Wireless has announced an aggressive offer which will
eliminate cellular roaming charges for many of its customers.
This offer is made possible because of the company's doubling of
its national GSM coverage area in the past year, which is now
