What type of flask should I get my boyfriend for Christmas? What should it be made of?
I don't need one that is glass-lined, but it does need to have a surface that can be engraved. Also, I'm looking for one where the cap is attached in some fashion and that comes with a funnel. I don't know what the best material for a flask is, but I'm seeing a lot of stainless steel and pewter. If possible, I'd like a reliable site that could do engraved images (nothing fancy, just a solid black image).
You want stainless steel.
The advantages of stainless are that it's durable, non-reactive (won't rust, corrode, or tarnish), engravable, and if you do get one that has a shiny, or mirror finish, it's the actual metal that's polished, not chrome, so it will never risk chipping or peeling.
In the case of engraving, stainless is a little tougher to work than brass or softer metals. Your best bet is to find a local store that does keepsake engraving, or even a jeweler. Some places that sell gifts like plaques and flasks, etc. will also do engraving or at least have some solid recommendations locally.
